💬

What is lip noise (mouth clicks)?

The "click", "smack" and saliva sounds produced when the mouth opens and closes. They are usually short transients under a few milliseconds and stand out in quiet narration or a cappella vocals.

Why AI denoisers cannot remove them

Broadband denoisers like RNNoise or DeepFilterNet attenuate sustained noise per frequency band. A few-millisecond click spreads across the whole spectrum and passes through these models almost untouched.

How declick works

It detects clicks as short abnormal transients, treats those regions as missing, and interpolates them from the clean surrounding waveform using an autoregressive (AR) model — the same idea as pro tools like iZotope RX Mouth De-click.

🎙️

What it works on

Works well with

  • Saliva clicks when opening the mouth
  • Lip smacks (the sound of lips parting)
  • Mouth noise in quiet narration / voice-over
  • Mouth clicks in a cappella or singer-songwriter vocals
  • Mouth noise in ASMR / podcasts

Limitations

  • Sustained background noise like AC or fans (use Shizuka)
  • Reverb / echo removal
  • Repairing long damage (tens of milliseconds+)

Tips for choosing the strength

  • Start with Standard; if clicks remain, go up one step at a time
  • If consonants (s/t/k) soften or sound unnatural, go down one step
  • For stubborn wet smacks, try Max (watch for effects on speech)
  • For stubborn big clicks, re-load the processed audio and run it again

FAQ

Is it really free? Do I need to sign up?

Yes, completely free. No sign-up or login, and no usage limits.

Are my audio files uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens in your browser. Your audio is never sent to a server.

Which audio formats are supported?

Input supports MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, FLAC, WebM and any format your browser can play. Output is WAV (lossless) or MP3 (192 kbps).

How is this different from AI noise removal?

Broadband AI denoisers like RNNoise target sustained noise and barely remove millisecond clicks. Sawayaka detects clicks directly and interpolates each region, so it removes lip noise with high precision. For background noise, use our sister tool Shizuka.

Does it work on vocals? Will the highs thin out?

Yes. Sawayaka processes at the original sample rate and does not band-limit, so vocal highs are preserved.

Will it remove consonants (p / t / k) too?

Stronger settings can affect plosives. The default is Standard, and you can choose the Lip-Noise Removal Strength from five steps (Light to Max). If consonants thin out, go down one step.

Does it support stereo?

Yes. Left and right channels are processed independently, since clicks often appear on only one channel.

Does it work on smartphones?

Yes, directly in iPhone and Android browsers with no app to install. For long audio, keep within a few minutes due to memory.
