How to use
Choose a video file
Drag and drop the video you want to trim or crop, or click to choose it. MP4 and MOV (videos shot on iPhone) are supported.
Crop the frame (optional)
Drag the corners or edges of the box around the area you want to keep. You can also pick a 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:3 ratio. Press "Apply" to see it in the preview, and "Edit" to go back to the full frame.
Choose the range to keep
Drag both ends of the bar below to cut off unwanted parts at the start and end. Use frame-by-frame stepping or "Set start here / Set end here" for precise adjustments.
Export
Press "Export" to create an MP4. If you don't crop, the export is lossless: video and audio are copied as they are.
Download
When it's done, save the file with the download button. Everything happens inside your browser, and your video is never uploaded.
FAQ
Is it really free?
Yes, it's completely free. No sign-up or login required.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. From loading to export, everything is processed inside your browser. Your video is never sent anywhere.
Does trimming reduce video quality?
If you don't crop the frame, video and audio are copied as they are, so quality doesn't change at all (lossless). If you crop, only the video is re-encoded: the cropped area keeps its full pixel size (no downscaling), with the same format as the source (H.264 / H.265), the same frame rate and a bitrate matched to the original.
Why does the video start slightly before the point I chose?
Lossless cutting can only start at a video break point (a keyframe). You can see how far it shifts in the export panel and in the hatched area of the trim bar. Check "Start exactly at the chosen point" to re-encode the video and cut precisely to the frame.
Which video formats are supported?
MP4 and MOV (including videos shot on iPhone). The main targets are H.264 / H.265 video and AAC audio. Export is in MP4 format.
Can I use iPhone videos (H.265 / HEVC)?
Yes. If you don't crop, H.265 videos can also be exported losslessly as they are. Preview and cropping require a browser that can play H.265 (such as Safari, or Chrome / Edge on Windows with H.265 support). In browsers that can't export H.265, the video is exported as H.264.
Can I turn a vertical video into a square or horizontal one?
Yes. Choose 1:1, 16:9, 9:16 or 4:3 with the ratio buttons to get a box with that ratio. Move the box over the part you want to keep and press "Apply". It also works for cropping vertical (9:16) videos for social media.
Can I cut out a section in the middle of a video?
Torimeru trims unwanted parts from the start and end of a video. Removing a section from the middle is not supported.
What happens to the audio?
Audio (AAC) is copied as is to match the trimmed range, so sound quality doesn't change. Audio in formats other than AAC is converted to AAC.
Does it work on smartphones?
Yes, it works in smartphone browsers too. Cropping long or high-resolution videos takes time, so we recommend using a computer for those.
Is HDR video preserved?
In lossless export (without cropping), the video data stays unchanged, but some HDR metadata may not carry over to the exported file. When you crop, the video is exported in standard color (SDR).
What to know about cropping and trimming video for free, without losing quality
Runs in your browser, so your privacy is protected
Torimeru never sends your video to a server. Loading, preview and export all happen inside your browser, so you can safely trim family videos, work videos or anything else you'd rather not hand over. No sign-up or login required.
Trimming vs. cropping: what's the difference?
Trimming a video means cutting off unwanted time at the start and end. Cropping means keeping only part of the picture. Torimeru does both on a single screen, so you can set the length and the framing while checking the preview.
How it cuts video without losing quality
When you don't crop, the video and audio data are copied as they are, without re-encoding (lossless). Quality stays identical to the original, and even videos of several hundred MB export in seconds. Because video can only start at a keyframe, the start point may shift slightly earlier.
Cropping keeps the original video specs as much as possible
When you crop, the video is re-encoded, but the cropped area is exported at its full pixel size (no downscaling) and keeps the source format (H.264 / H.265), frame rate and keyframe interval. The bitrate is set to the same level as the original for the cropped area. Audio is copied without re-encoding.
Change the aspect ratio for social media (9:16, 1:1, 16:9)
Crop a vertical 9:16 video out of a horizontal one, or make it a 1:1 square. Pick a ratio button to get a box with that ratio, then move it so your subject fits. Handy for vertical video posts or square videos for profile icons.
No app needed — crop and trim video on any device
If you came here looking for a video trimming app, you can do the same thing without installing anything. Torimeru works in the latest browsers on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. For cropping long or high-resolution videos, a computer is faster and more stable.
