FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free. No sign-up and no usage limits.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. Your audio is never uploaded — all processing happens in your browser, so your privacy is protected.

What is a vocal remover?

A tool that removes the vocals from a song to create an instrumental backing track. Utawake also generates an acapella (vocals only) at the same time.

Which audio formats are supported?

MP3, WAV, FLAC and M4A can be loaded. Output is available as WAV (44.1kHz/16bit) or MP3 (192kbps).

Can I make karaoke tracks?

Yes. The instrumental keeps the original key and tempo, so it works well for singing practice and karaoke tracks.

Can it extract just the vocals (acapella)?

Yes. One run generates both the instrumental and the acapella — there is no need to process the song twice.

How long does processing take?

With a WebGPU-capable browser, a 3–4 minute song takes roughly a few minutes. Without WebGPU it falls back to the CPU and can take ten-plus minutes. The first run also downloads the AI model (about 59MB).

Does it work on smartphones?

No. AI processing needs a lot of memory and computing power, so smartphones and tablets are not supported. Please use Chrome / Edge on a desktop.

How accurate is the separation?

A neural network tells the vocals and the accompaniment apart. Songs where vocals and backing are clearly distinct separate best; heavy chorus or echo may leave slight traces of the other side.

Can I freely use the extracted audio?

Only use audio you own, audio you have permission for, or audio within legal exceptions such as private use. Publishing or distributing the output without permission may infringe copyright.

What about audio quality?

Output is 44.1kHz/16bit. Choose lossless WAV or easy-to-share MP3 (192kbps). Due to the nature of separation, the result will not be perfectly identical to the original.

How is it different from other vocal removers?

Many vocal extraction services are upload-based, require an account, or limit usage. Utawake is local, sign-up-free, completely free with no limits, and generates the instrumental and the acapella together.

What to Know About Using a Free, No-Sign-Up, In-Browser Vocal Remover

In-browser processing protects your privacy

Your audio files are never sent to a server. The AI source separation runs inside your browser (WebGPU / WebAssembly), so even unreleased demos and recording material stay safely on your machine while you remove or extract vocals.

Instrumental and acapella in a single pass

One run gives you both the instrumental (karaoke track) and the acapella. From singing practice and karaoke tracks to transcribing, remixes and mashup material — one tool covers it all.

Reads MP3, WAV, FLAC and M4A; outputs WAV and MP3

Load common audio formats directly. Output comes as edit-friendly lossless WAV (44.1kHz/16bit) or small, shareable MP3 (192kbps) — pick whichever suits your workflow.

Fast AI processing on your GPU (WebGPU)

With WebGPU-capable Chrome / Edge, the separation runs on your computer's GPU. A 3–4 minute song takes roughly a few minutes. Because it needs serious computing power, the tool is desktop-only.

How it differs from other vocal remover sites

Many vocal extraction services are upload-based, require registration, and limit or charge for use. Utawake is local, registration-free and completely free — an advantage for both privacy and cost.
