How to Use
Select a video or GIF file

Set the trim range (optional)
Cut out just the part you need. The shorter the GIF, the smaller the file — trimming first is the best way to save size.
Pick a quality preset
Choose High, Medium or Low. The preset sets the colors and dither (texture) and fills in recommended values for resolution and frame rate.
Fine-tune while watching the estimated size
Move the resolution, frame-rate and color controls and the estimated size updates in real time, with guides for limits like Discord's 20MB free tier.
Export and download
Click "Export GIF". Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. When it's done, hit the download button to save your GIF.

Yes, it is completely free to use. No account or sign-up required.
Are my files uploaded to a server?

Which formats are supported?

Yes. Load an existing animated GIF and reduce its file size by adjusting the three main levers: colors, resolution and frame rate.
How accurate is the estimated size?
GIF file size depends heavily on the content, so the estimate is a guide with roughly ±30% margin. After your first export, the estimate is calibrated against the actual result and becomes more accurate.
What is the size limit for GIFs on Discord?
Free Discord accounts can upload up to 20MB, Nitro Basic up to 50MB. Note that Discord and X also accept videos — if you don't specifically need a GIF file, our sister tool Chidimeru (MP4 compressor) gives smaller files with better quality.
Why do GIF files get so large?
A GIF stores every frame like a flip book and uses a compression method far older than modern video codecs. Even a few seconds of footage can reach tens of megabytes. Lowering colors, resolution and frame rate keeps the size down.
Does it work on smartphones?
Yes, it works in mobile browsers. For large files, we recommend using a PC.
How can I shrink a GIF while keeping quality?
Try these in order: (1) trim to just the part you need, (2) reduce colors (256 to 128 saves a lot with little visible change), (3) lower the frame rate, (4) lower the resolution.
Is transparency supported?
The current version does not preserve transparency. Transparent areas may be filled with a background color.

Your files are never sent to a server. Everything is processed by WebAssembly (FFmpeg.wasm) inside your browser, so confidential or personal footage never leaves your device.

The three levers that shrink a GIF: colors, resolution, frame rate
A GIF's size is roughly resolution × frame count × colors. Colors are the best value: dropping 256 to 128 saves a lot with little visible change. Gifmeru exposes all three as sliders, and the estimated size updates in real time as you move them, so it's easy to land on your target size.
