Before you post a video

6 free tools to use before posting videos to social media
Fix the orientation, hide faces, shrink the file — all free, right in your browser

Videos straight off your phone often get stuck at "it plays sideways," "there's a stranger's face in it," or "it's too big to send." When that happens, just pick whichever of these six tools fits the problem.

THE SHORT VERSION

You don't need all of them. Just pick the tools that fix the problem you have. A video exported from one tool can go straight into another. Any order works, but always use Chidimeru (shrink the file size) last.

  1. Sideways or upside down → Yokotate
  2. Something unwanted at the edge of the frame / want to trim the start and end without quality loss →Torimeru
  3. Strangers' faces or license plates in the shot → Tsuibi Mozaru
  4. You can hear conversations or names → Otokeshi
  5. Wind or background noise is too loud → Shizuka
  6. Too big to send → Chidimeru

Yokotate | Fix your video's orientation

You shot it vertically but it plays sideways, or it's upside down
Yokotate's screen (Japanese UI). Pressing the rotate button changes the orientation, e.g. "now 0° → after saving 90°", and the save button exports it in that orientation
Yokotate's screen. Press the rotate button to change the orientation (e.g. "now 0° → after saving 90°"), then export with "Save in this orientation."

Phone videos carry a little piece of info (a rotation flag) that tells players which way is up. When that flag is off, your video ends up sideways wherever you post it. The footage itself is fine, so rewriting just the flag fixes it in an instant. Nothing gets re-encoded, so the quality stays exactly the same.

  1. Open Yokotate and pick your video (MP4 or MOV)
  2. Rotate until the preview looks right
  3. Export. It only takes a few seconds
TipInstagram Reels and TikTok expect vertical video (9:16). Always double-check the orientation before you post.

Torimeru | Crop the edges & trim the start and end losslessly

Something unwanted shows up at the edge of the frame / you want to trim the start and end without losing quality
Torimeru's trim bar (Japanese UI). Drag the handles at both ends to choose what to keep, or use the set-start-here and set-end-here buttons
Torimeru's trim bar. Drag the handles at both ends to choose the part to keep, or use "Set start here" and "Set end here."

If a stranger or something unwanted has crept into the edge of the frame, you can simply crop it out. When you'd rather it just wasn't in the shot at all, that's often cleaner than covering it up.

On top of that, Torimeru is the only tool here that can trim the start and end without any quality loss. You can cut off the shaky bit right after you hit record, or the pause at the end before you stopped, without re-encoding the video.

  1. Open Torimeru and pick your video
  2. If something unwanted is at the edge of the frame, set the area to keep (crop)
  3. To trim the start and end, set where the part you want to keep begins and ends
  4. Export
NoteCropping re-encodes the video, so the quality changes slightly. Trimming the start and end on its own is lossless.

Tsuibi Mozaru | Hide faces & license plates

Strangers' faces, car license plates, nameplates on houses, names showing on a screen, and so on
Tsuibi Mozaru (Japanese UI) with a box drawn around the area to hide. The round button at the top-left of the box switches between tracking and fixed
A box drawn around the area to hide in Tsuibi Mozaru. The round button at the top-left of the box switches between tracking and fixed.

For street footage, where people tend to wander into the shot, this is the tool you'll reach for most. Just draw a box around what you want to hide, and the mosaic follows it automatically as it moves. No need to adjust the position frame by frame. For things that don't move (house nameplates, signs and so on), you can also choose a fixed mosaic that doesn't track.

  1. Open Tsuibi Mozaru and pick your video
  2. Draw a box around what you want to hide (as many as you like)
  3. Choose how to hide it: mosaic, blur, fill or stamp. You can set the strength for each area, too
  4. Check in the preview that the tracking stays on target, then export
TipIf the tracking drifts, try making the box a little bigger, or set up the fast-moving part as a separate area. Processing is heavy, so long or high-resolution videos will finish faster on a PC.

Otokeshi | Mute or bleep out conversations

There are conversations or names in the audio / you want to add music on the platform you're posting to
Otokeshi's screen (Japanese UI). One button mutes everything, or you can pick ranges and choose silence or a beep for each
Otokeshi's screen. "Mute everything" takes one click, or use "Mute / hide only parts" to choose silence or a beep for each range.

Even when the picture is fine, the audio often gives away personal info. You can mute the whole thing, or pick ranges and silence or bleep out just those parts. The video track is simply copied, so the picture quality doesn't change. If you plan to add music on the platform you're posting to, muting the whole video first makes things easier.

  1. Open Otokeshi and pick your video
  2. Choose the whole video, or the ranges you don't want heard
  3. Choose "Silence" or "Beep" and export

Shizuka | Reduce wind & background noise

Wind, air conditioning or crowd chatter makes voices hard to hear

For talking videos shot outdoors or somewhere noisy, using AI noise removal to keep just the voices makes them much easier to listen to. You can load the video as is; the picture stays untouched (lossless), and only the audio is processed and swapped in.

  1. Open Shizuka and pick your video
  2. Run the processing and compare it with the original sound
  3. Export

Chidimeru | Shrink the file size

You get a "file too large" error / the upload never finishes / you can't send it on LINE or Discord
Chidimeru's target size options (Japanese UI): presets for 3MB, 20MB (Discord free) and 50MB (social media), or a custom number
Chidimeru's target size. Pick a preset (3MB, 20MB for Discord free, 50MB for social media) or type in a custom number.

Set a target like "under X MB," and it automatically fits the video into that size at the best quality possible. Just enter the limit for wherever you're posting. You can also trim the start and end while compressing (the trimmed part is re-encoded along with the compression).

NoteIf you're using other tools too, save Chidimeru for last. Running the video through another tool afterward will change the size you just worked to hit.
  1. Open Chidimeru and pick your video
  2. Enter a target size (use the table below as a guide)
  3. Compress and download. Now it's ready to post

FAQ

Do I need to use all of these tools?
No. Just use the ones that fix the problem you actually have. A video exported from one tool can go straight into another. Any order is fine, but always use Chidimeru last.
Can I do all of this on my phone?
Yes. Every tool here runs in the browser on iPhone and Android. No app to install and no video to upload. Long or high-resolution videos will finish faster on a PC, though.
Are my videos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser, and the video file never leaves your device. You can safely edit videos even when other people's faces are in them.
Can I use the .mov file straight from my iPhone?
Yes. Each tool supports MP4 and MOV, the iPhone's standard format. Compressing with Chidimeru gives you an MP4, which social media platforms also handle more easily.
I want to sharpen a blurry video before posting it
Try Shaki Video, which upscales video with AI.
I just want the audio from a video
Ototori pulls out just the audio, losslessly. It can also convert it to MP3 or WAV.
