Mozaru v1.2
Adjust your mosaic later and
emoji & image stamps are here!

Mozaru, the tool that adds a mosaic or blur to faces or license plates in a photo once you draw around them, has been updated to v1.2. The biggest change: you no longer have to confirm each region with “Apply.” You can select it again and fix it anytime. We've also added “Stamp,” which hides things with an emoji or your own image.

Adjust any region later, as many times as you like

For when it's a bit off, you want a different strength, or you'd rather remove it

Until now, every time you drew a region, you confirmed it with the “Apply” button. A confirmed mosaic was burned into the photo, so if you wanted to change its position or strength later, you had to undo it and apply it again.

From v1.2, there's no need to confirm. Every region you draw stays editable, and just by selecting it again, you can change its position, size, effect type and strength anytime.

The editor (Japanese UI): the region over the father's face is selected again, showing a dotted outline and handles, with the effect switched to blur and the strength slider being moved
Selecting the face region again, switching the type to “Blur” and adjusting the strength with the slider. The other two regions (Pixelate) can still be edited, too.

How to use it

  1. Draw around what you want to hide with “Rectangle,” “Ellipse” or “Pen” (the mosaic is applied as soon as you draw)
  2. Tap (or click) the region you want to fix to select it. A dotted outline and square handles appear
  3. Drag inside the region to move it, or drag a handle to resize it
  4. Change the type with “Effect:” (Pixelate, Blur, Black, White or Stamp) and the strength with “Strength:”
  5. To remove a region you no longer need, select it and press “🗑 Delete”

The panel settings apply to the selected region. When nothing is selected, they apply to the next region you draw (to the right of the “Tools” heading, you'll see “Target: selected region” or “Target: next region”). Tap an empty spot on the photo to deselect.

Tip“↶ Undo” and “↷ Redo” work one action at a time, whether it's adding, moving, resizing, changing the type or strength, or deleting. The dotted outline and handles of the selection don't appear in the downloaded image.

“Stamp”: hide things with an emoji or your own image

For hiding things in a cuter, more natural way than a mosaic
The editor (Japanese UI): Stamp is chosen as the effect and a sunglasses emoji covers the mother's face, while the boy's face is covered with a stamp made from an image of my own
Choose “Stamp” under “Effect:” and a row of emoji plus “📷 Image” appear. The woman on the right is hidden with an emoji, and the boy with an image of my own (the Mozaru logo).

We've added “Stamp” as a new effect type. When you want to hide your child's face before posting a photo on social media, for example, it covers the face without spoiling the mood of the photo the way a mosaic or blur can.

How to use it

  1. Select the region you want to hide (if you're about to draw a new one, skip this and go to the next step)
  2. Choose “Stamp” under “Effect:”
  3. Pick one of the 11 emoji under “Stamp:”. To use your own image instead, press “📷 Image” and choose a picture
  • Each region gets its own image: use your logo for one person and a different illustration for another. You can mix them with emoji, too
  • The whole image shows, nothing cut off: when you choose an image, the region's box changes to match the image's aspect ratio, so even a wide logo isn't cropped at the edges
  • iPhone photos (HEIC) work too: any image Mozaru can open can be used as a stamp as is
NoteIf you use a PNG with a transparent background as a stamp, the photo underneath shows through the transparent parts. If you want to hide a face completely, choose an image with no transparent areas.
3

Rotate stamps so they blend into the photo

For matching the tilt of a face
The editor (Japanese UI): the angle slider is set to 12 degrees, tilting the image stamp on the boy's face slightly; the woman's sunglasses emoji is tilted too
When the effect is a stamp, “Angle:” appears instead of “Strength:”. Here the boy's image is tilted 12° and the woman's emoji -15°.

Faces in photos aren't always looking straight at the camera. Since you can rotate stamps, you can line them up naturally with the tilt of each face.

  • Use the Angle: slider to rotate anywhere from -180° to 180° (positive is clockwise)
  • Press “↺” to go back to 0°
  • Each region keeps its own angle, so every person can have a different tilt. Rotating doesn't change the stamp's size
4

A gentle snap to perfect squares and circles

For circling faces neatly
The editor (Japanese UI): the girl's and boy's faces are each enclosed in a perfect circle drawn with Ellipse
Drag with “Ellipse,” and once the width and height are almost equal, it snaps to a perfect circle.

When you draw with “Rectangle” or “Ellipse,” the shape now snaps gently to an exact square or circle as the width and height get close. The same goes for resizing with the handles.

It only snaps when the difference between width and height on screen is tiny (8 pixels or less). Keep dragging and you can still make it as tall or as wide as you like.

Want to blur a video? Try “Tsuibi Mozaru”

Mozaru is for photos and images only. To add a mosaic to a video, try Tsuibi Mozaru, the video version. Just draw a box around a face or anything else, and it automatically follows the movement and keeps it hidden. Emoji and image stamps work there, too.

FAQ

Did the update make it a paid tool?
No. Mozaru is still free, with no sign-up. Just open the page and the v1.2 features are ready to use.
Do I still need to press “Apply” to confirm each region, like before?
No. Each region shows up in the result right away and is merged into the photo when you press “Download image.” The dotted outline and handles of the selection don't appear in the downloaded image.
What images can I use as a stamp?
Any image Mozaru can open, such as JPEG, PNG or WebP, works as is. iPhone HEIC files work too. With a PNG that has a transparent background, the photo underneath shows through the transparent parts, so if you want to hide a face completely, choose an image with no transparent areas.
Can I use a different image stamp for each region?
Yes. Each region keeps its own image, so you can use your logo for one person and a different illustration for another. You can mix them with emoji, too.
I deleted a region by mistake.
Press “↶ Undo” to bring it back (or Ctrl+Z on a computer). Adding, moving, resizing, changing the type, strength, stamp or angle, and deleting can all be undone one action at a time.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. In v1.2, too, all processing happens inside your browser, and neither your photo nor the images you use as stamps ever leave your device.
Found a bug, or want a new feature?
Please let us know through the contact form. This update was built from requests we received, too.
